4-3 Update

Ok... after a few lighting passes... ok... like 10 lighting passes. And a super special thanks to Nate for some perfect particle effects I have gotten to this point.

I still need to do a number of things... but I think it is coming along fairly well... if I get the internship at Disney it will be because of this... and I still have a few days worth of work on it.

So... feedback? Colors? Do you like the colors of the crystals? What about the two different blues? How about the lighting and coloring I've tried to put in? Does the level color flow well? Is there anything distracting or really out of place? Is it bright enough? What is missing? What just doesn't work? Should I just start all over?

Thanks for all the help.

  1. First of all...I like the conference soundtrack! :)

Second: I like the two colors of blue crystals. I also like the warm yellow, and I think a red or orange occasionally mixed in with the yellow would look good.

It is all really starting to come together. I hope you are feeling good about it because it has come along way this week. The particles and lighting have made it feel like a real level and are really enhancing the shapes you created in the level modeling.

As far as the color goes, I am feeling better about it, with the more saturated crystal colors. There is one area (an enclosed tunnel area that you enter that has a yellow glow as you enter...18 seconds in) that I think might work better with a different hue of warmth...the red or orange I mentioned earlier. You just have a cyan crystal lighting one side and yellow the other and together they mix to create kind of a sickly green. This may not be better with a different warm color, but it may be worth a shot.

    The purple shadows look great.

It is feeling way more Disney. Lets look at it on Tuesday, if you have the time.

  2. I was looking at this again, as well as looking at other "ice planet" kind of images and I wonder if you could get more bright "whites" in the open areas to increase the contrast between tunnel areas and open areas. Right now it looks like it is overcast in the open areas, which dulls the colors and the contrast in values. I am not sure if this can be fixed with lighting or if it a texture issue.
